My Super–Human

Watching you,
From the corner of my eyes,
Baby, you’re so perfect,
I can’t describe,
For you,
I’d walk a thousand miles,
Pretending like,
It’s always alright,
Don’t come any closer,
Don’t smile or grin,
Don’t be such a good poser,
Don’t pretend like we are a sin,
Don’t be so cold-blooded,
Don’t blame it all on me,
‘Cause,
I have known this after all these years,
You’re not even human,
When you cry without tears,
You’re not even human,
When all you do is not care.

Infinity stops short,
It watches you play the harmonica,
Baby, the sound of your voice,
Every time I hear you,
It makes me weak in the knees,
When you hold my hand to kiss my finger-tips,
I feel nothing but thousands of butterflies in my stomach,
I’d give it all up for you,
Pretending like,
It’s always alright,
Don’t make the same mistake again,
Don’t make me fall out of love,
Don’t be such a pain,
Don’t pretend like it’s us you want to get rid of,
Don’t be so cruel,
Don’t blame it all on me,
‘Cause,
I have known this after all these years,
You’re not even human,
When you cry without tears,
You’re not even human,
When all you do is not care.

Never Meant To Be

The day I met you,
For the very first time,

Watching you,
From the distance,
You stood by yourself,

Fiddling with your hands,
With a 20 dollar bill,
Not even a pound,
To be found in your wallet,
I came for your rescue,
Paid your cab’s fare,
And there you were,
Red like a tomato,
Embarrassed and flushed,
But we laughed it off,
That black dressing shirt you wore,
And the faded denim jeans,

I still remember how nervous we were,
When our eyes first met,
When our worlds finally collided,
We headed down the road,
For our first meal together,
Nandos wasn’t your cup of tea,
That butterfly chicken you made fun of,
The way you looked at me,
That spark in your eyes,
The warmth in your smile,
I melted in the glimpse of your splendor,
Your annoyingly cute OCD,
Your exhilarating throaty laughs,
The best of all,
Your amusing company,
For that one night,
I had it all,
But none to keep,
A long journey,
A 12 hour flight,
You came all the way,
Across the ocean,
Just to see me,
To be with me,
To feel me,
To have me by your side,
A day later,
For the very first time,
By the fast food stall,

You wrapped me,
In your arms,
Concealed me,
In your embrace,
You held me tight,
I held you close,
Never knowing,
One day,
You will have to go.

Day 29: Where have you travelled?

I haven’t travelled to a lot of places internationally but the few on my list are:

1) Dubai
2) England

I have travelled a lot across my country if only that counts. Also, I hope to have a better and bigger list by 30.

Until next time, Live, Love, Inspire & (don’t forget to) Smile. Believe in yourself and you can conquer all your fears.

Born to be Loved

You were my master plan,
My eternity and my life span,
Nothing close to my imagination,
Nothing close to an ordinary man,
You were you,
A man dressed in blue,
For some reason,
I couldn’t see through,
A volcano erupting,
For I knew,
You were a man,
Born to be loved.

You were my everything,
My autumn and my spring,
The song I loved to sing,
Nothing close to the love I read about,
Nothing close to my fears and doubts,
You were you,
A man who knew the art,
For some reason,
I couldn’t stop my heart,
From falling,
From wanting,
From breaking,
The universe tore itself apart,
For this love I felt,
Nothing less than magic,
For I never knew,
It was unfortunate and tragic,
But what I always knew,
You were a man,
Born to be loved.

Day 28: What are you Looking Forward to?

At the moment, nothing. If this counts then I am looking forward to myself and living this life one day at a time. I have had a rough patch in my life and the aftermath is ongoing so I will rest my heart and soul for a while and not look forward to anything except myself. Additionally, I have learnt it the hard way that everything wouldn’t go by ‘your’ plan then why plan? Well, avoiding my philosophies before this brief post turns into a long boring essay, I shall end this now.

Until the next post, Live, Love, Inspire & (don’t forget to) Smile. Believe in yourself and you can conquer all your fears.

You were not Sorry

Do you remember the time?
When you told me loving you was a crime,
I believed you and began to climb,
Crossing the borders,
Muddling through,
Making my way,
Establishing myself,
‘Love is fatal’, you said,
I heard you,
You disappeared one day,
There was nothing I could do,
I cried and cried,
Softly sobbing through the nights,
I cried and cried,
Shouting and struggling with all my might,
You were not sorry,
‘Cause
You left me hanging,
Left me bleeding,
Left me to rot,
You pulled yourself through,
But you forgot, my love,
That I was there with you too.

Day 27: Post your Favorite Recipe

Since a year now, I have been obsessed with Trinidadian style stew chicken and I’d love to share the recipe. I was really bad at making it initially but I didn’t give up and now whoever I make it for, they can’t stop talking about it and always end up asking the recipe. So let’s get started, shall we?

Marination:
1kg Chicken and marinate with 4 tablespoons of Chief Green Seasoning. You can usually not find it in grocery stores but the Caribbean stores. I located one close by my house but if you don’t have the seasoning, no worries!! All you need is, 1 1/2 teaspoon of garlic paste, 1 1/2 teaspoon of ginger paste,1 1/2 hot chilli powder (more or less depending on how hot you want it to be), salt (as per your taste) and 1 teaspoon coriander powder. Chop 2 onions finely and throw them in the bowl along with the marinated chicken. Then leave the marination for an hour or so (I usually leave it over night).

Cooking:
Add two tablespoon of oil and let it heat. Add 4 to 5 tablespoons of sugar to the oil and caramelize the sugar and wait for it to change the color to dark brown-ish (more like blackish). Add your marinated chicken and onions in the caramelized sugar and mix it well so the chicken is covered with sugar properly. At this point, usually take down the temperature of the stove a little bit and cover the pot with its lid. Let the chicken cook in its own water but just don’t leave it to sit by itself (my mistake initially). Keep checking every 4 to 5 minutes so the chicken doesn’t burn. Also, initially you might think it needs water but don’t make that mistake either. Towards the end, if you think the chicken is not properly cooked, then you can add water and let it cook and bring it back to however thick gravy you want the chicken to have but this step is usually not needed. Well it will take around 20 to 30 minutes to cook the chicken. After 10 minutes of cooking the chicken, add 2 to 3 tablespoon of ketchup (more or less based on your taste again) and add chopped scotch bonnet pepper (Trinidadian people love a lot of pepper and I can tell with experience but people like me and you can burn our tongues and taste buds) so I prefer chopped green chilies. They aren’t as spicy as scotch bonnet and gives a good flavor to the dish too. You can tell the chicken is cooked when you can see a layer of oil on the sides of the pan (it seems like it’s a separated layer, something like that). Garnish it with chopped coriander and mint leaves (absolutely optional — moms like to pull that move with presentation).

Serving:
You can serve this with either boiled rice or roti or a takeaway naan from your local grocery store. Enjoy!

I think it wasn’t that bad. If any of you give it a try, I want to hear all about it!!

Day 26: An Old Photo Of You

IMG_3429

I don’t know why am I quite that lost on my birthday (chocolate cake I guess – yum)

This is my sixth birthday and my brother’s fourth birthday (who’s in the picture with me) photograph. My family usually celebrated our birthday together because it happens to be on consecutive days. Good old days — these old pictures remind me how time is ticking away so fast.
